The Queen's Guards – Irish, Coldstream, Scots, Welsh, Grenadier – worn the tall black bearskin hats, permanent reminder about the victory at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. Three armies were involved in the battle of Waterloo: a French army under the command of Napoleon Bonaparte; an Anglo-led Allied army under the command of the Duke of Wellington, and a Prussian army under the command of Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher, Prince of Wahlstatt. Each one the Royal Guard’s UK regiment has a special coloured feather plume in their bearskin.

The Yeomen Warders, popularly known as the Beefeaters, are ceremonial guardians of the Tower of London. They were originally formed in 1485 by Henry VII, the first monarch of the Tudor dynasty. There are currently 37 Beefeaters at the Tower of London. It isn’t known who first called the yeomen 'beefeaters' or why, but their generous meat ration may have had something to do with it.
